Dawn

Josie wakes up at a quarter to 6

Taste of the evening still fresh on her lips

Too tired to get up, she’ll dust off her phone

And hide from the fact that we all die alone

The coffee’s too hot and the steering wheel’s cold

Kids off to school now can’t wait till they’re old

Drive by the lights of an old donut shop

Pray for the future, and another good crop

But all you hold to will blow away

Dawn will break you and radiate

Another moon burns out and she’s still alive

She’s been down to the river and the demons that hide

Maybe the trick is to not think too much

Her brain doesn’t turn off, still feels out of touch

Now I’m on the outskirts just singing this tune

To some dim lit old tavern, or a Southwest saloon

“If it all ends in a weightless black void

Might as well look at the things we avoid”

But all you hold to will blow away

Dawn will break you and radiate

All you hold to will blow away

But all you hold to will blow away

Dawn will break you and radiate

All you hold to will blow away

Hell is to have wings but no where to fly

To always want something and no way to try
